Social visits

Wed: 14:00 - 16:00

Thu: 14:00 - 16:00

Fri: 14:00 - 16:00

Booking information: All visits must be booked 48 hours in advance. The booking desk is open Mon - Thur 08:00 - 12:20 & 17:30 - 19:45, Fri 08:00 - 12:20 & 18:00 - 19:45 and weekends 08:30 - 12:20.

There is a visitors centre that is open 7 days a week from 12:00 - 16:00.


Additional information: All visitors will be required to provide two forms of identification, one of which should be photo-bearing with one or both showing a current address. Acceptable forms of ID are as follows:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Birth certificate
  • Senior citizen public transport pass issued by the local authority
  • Rail or bus pass with photo
  • Employer's ID card showing name of visitor and employer plus photograph and signature that can be compared to that of the visitor
  • Young person's official proof of age card
  • Trade union or National Student Union membership card
  • Recent utility bill or receipt, i.e. gas, telephone or electricity bill

Visitor recognition system

All visitors will be required to enrol on the visitors' registration system prior to entering the establishment. All adult male visitors will be required to comply with the hand-imaging process.


Items allowed into the prison with visitors

Visitors will be limited as to what they will be allowed to bring into the visits area.

  • Personal clothing as worn
  • Loose change for the purchasing of refreshments (no notes)
  • Baby's dummies, feeding bottles, baby food, change of nappy
  • Hats and sunglasses must be stored in the lockers provided

Coin-operated lockers are provided for the retention of items not allowed into the prison (£1 refundable).


Search procedures

All visitors will be subject to a rub-down search. All bags and overcoats will be passed through a metal detection point. All property brought into the establishment will be searched. Drug detection dogs operate in the area and visitors will be subject to routine screening by a passive drug detection dog.


Property

All incoming property transactions will be searched and recorded at the point of receipt prior to the visit taking place. All outgoing property will be given to the visitor before the end of the visit.


Camera surveillance operates in all areas of the prison establishment.

Additional information: Private legal visit booths are avaiable - please ask when booking your visit.


Afternoon visits are with domestic using the 6 available private booths.


How to get there:

  • Bus: Number 112 from the Queens Hotel bus stop (100 metres down the hill from Leyland Railway Station)
  • Train: Leyland Railway Station is six miles from the prison (complete journey by bus as above)
  • Car: From M6 (junction 28): Turn left, follow mini-roundabout, go straight across and follow road to traffic lights. Turn left, go through next set of lights, follow road round to right (leisure centre on left). At end, turn left and then immediately right. Follow road to end (mini-roundabout) and turn right. At next mini-roundabout, go straight across. Bear left into Slater Lane and go straight across at the traffic lights. Follow the road to the end and turn left. Garth is approximately one mile on the right (follow signs).
