Social visits

Fri: 09:30 - 11:30 & 14:00 - 16:00

Sat: 09:30 - 11:30 & 14:00 - 16:00

Sun: 09:30 - 11:30 & 14:00 - 16:00


Last entry time for morning visits is 10:45, and for afternoon visits is 15:15.


Booking information: Visits booking lines are open Mon-Fri 14:00 – 17:00 & Monday evening 18:00 – 19:45 (excluding Bank Holidays).

Or bookings can be made by email on socialvisits.blundeston@hmps.gsi.gov.uk, where the following information is required:


  • Name and number of the prisoner to be visited
  • Visiting Order No
  • Expiry date of Visiting Order
  • Name and date of birth of all adults (over 18 years of age) visiting
  • Ages of children attending the visit

The deadline for booking a Friday or Weekend visit is 17:00 on the preceding Thursday.


Visitors arriving at Lowestoft Railway Station can be picked up and dropped off by the prison van service (please advise when booking your visit).


Visitors Centre: Blundeston's Visitor's Centre is staffed and managed by Ormiston Childrens & Families Trust (tel. 01502 734591) and located in a car park adjacent to the prison entrance. Facilities include a refreshments area, toilets, public pay phone and play facilities for children.

Visitors have access to personal lockers in which to deposit their valuables and any items that are not permitted into the visits room (e.g. mobile phones, sim cards). Additionally there is a small playroom for children between the ages of 2-8 years, which is supervised by appropriately trained staff.


Additional information:

  • On a monthly basis, the prison offers family visits which allow families the opportunity to spend time with their relatives for a full day session
  • Please arrive 30 minutes before your visit and go to the Visitors Centre located in front of the prison
  • Please note that £15.00 in coinage only is permitted to be taken into the visits room
  • Please ensure you have your correct ID (see visiting order)
  • Visitors caught supplying drugs or other illicit items into the prison will be arrested
  • Children's visits are also run periodically.

Additional information: Police visits may take place outside normal visits but in the visits room.


How to get there:

Blundeston Prison is located 4.5 miles north of Lowestoft, Suffolk.

  • Train: To Lowestoft from Ipswich or Norwich. Trains are infrequent and information may be obtained from the National Rail Enquiry Bureau Tel 0345 484 050
  • Car: Take A12 Lowestoft to Gt. Yarmouth. North of Lowestoft proceed over roundabout (Tesco Supermarket on right). Take first left (sign posted Blundeston Village and Prison). Go down to roundabout and proceed over. Prison is approximately half a mile on the left.
  • Parking is available at the prison.
