The twenty-five finalists for the 2006 Prison Officer of the Year Award have been announced.

The twenty-five finalists for the 2006 Prison Officer of the Year Award have been announced.

More than five hundred nominations were received from prison Governors for eight different categories. Twelve prisons will be represented for the first time, with a record number of women making it to the final stage. There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise the work of an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Service during the course of their career.

A winner from each category will be announced at the ceremony and one overall winner chosen by Prison Service Director General, Phil Wheatley, as Prison Officer of the Year 2006.

The final arrangements are taking place for the ceremony, which will take place at a gala evening in Leeds, later this month.
