To help achieve high standards the Prison Service publishes quarterly performance ratings for every public sector establishment.
The Rating System
Prisons are rated on a 1 to 4 performance scale. Level 4 is awarded to excellent establishments that are delivering exceptionally high performance. Level 1 indicates a poor performer.
HM Prison Service makes an assessment of performance for all public prisons. Helen Edwards, as Commissioner for Correctional Services has responsability for the performance of contracted sector establishments and she makes an assessment of contracted establishments on the same basis.
The ratings of each public prison are part of a Benchmarking improvement programme. All public sector prisons will be benchmarked over a seven year period.
The Performance Ratings are published quarterly in the
Resource Centre.
